There is also the historical fact to be taken into account. Americans moved OUT of Europe in order to enjoy more freedom, more liberty. The ones left were the ones who had less desire for individual liberties. Their descendants are modern Europeans.
Immigration to the American shores from Europe never really slowed and was fed by the liberty seeking of their particular generation.
I am one who wants to do exactly that liberating step. I am applying for a green card.
