It’s really not that well known though as a phrase and I think most people, if you use the word “tribe” think Native American not Jew.

I live in a huge, giant city with lots and lots of Jews and it’s not common here.

I agree that most people would think Native American first, but amongst your community, if you said member of the tribe, you think they wouldn’t get it?

Now I have learned something. Perhaps it’s a regional thing, because everyone here would get it. I assumed that a fellow like Buchanan would know it too since he likes to prong us so much and I assumed he was pointedly using it as an insult.
