Obama indicated the investigation will be thorough and will include the possibility of criminal acts. I don’t think it’s verboten at all. It’s a normal question to ask. I don’t like it when people, due to their own partisan paranoia, attack others who ask perfectly legitimate questions.

But it’s abnormal to start insinuating a conspiracy, absent real evidence, as Rush is doing (although I suspect he’s not being serious).

It took them eleven months to release the report on Piper Alpha and they knew what the cause was within the first few months after interviewing the surviving employees of the platform. Your dealing with academics who don’t just want to assign one specific point of blame, they will say “this was the cause” but also “this, and this, and this contributed.”

Until they know exactly what happened and every possible thing that led up to it happening they will not release a report. The rig is at the bottom of very deep water and burnt and twisted beyond recognition, they may never determine the actual cause, but then again people thought they would never figure out what happened to Piper Alpha either.
