I agree he doesn’t believe it - but I can’t agree about many members of his audience. Interviews with Tea Partiers pretty consistently have them talking about how Beck has opened their eyes to the truth about what’s going on. They may not be going out to stock up on food - but I think that many in his audience believe his conspiracy theories.

They use the talking points, embrace his revisionist history etc but the vast mojority of the Tea Partiers don’t believe this stuff either. If they did they’d be dangerous. A very small minority of wingnuts take the rhetoric as literally true and most of them probably have mental problems.
If they really thought the death panels were real there would be riots in the streets.
