By our standards, Ike keep would be Left-Wing. And I like Ike.

By the same standards, Nixon would be a lefty as well, particularly in expanding government regulation to clean air and water, creating the EPA (EPA! EPA!!!) and opening relations with the communists in China.

The left/right metric breaks down once people realize that the parties aren’t where they were 20 years ago, let alone 30, 50, or 150+ years ago. The GOP of today isn’t the same party. Neither are Democrats.
