About those “rockets” being photographed across Ukraine, my understanding from some of the tweets is that these are the rocket booster stage of the rocket, that disengages from the warhead. I think these are from the Grad?
A quick google didn’t help me.
Any Lizard have a better insight?

From what I have researched, two different rocket carriers:

The smerch carries the larger 300 mm diameter rockets with about 500 pounds of explosive (about one bomb from a flying fortress). I am not sure they separate in flight. From the physics aspect of it the rocket in your photo looks like a dud, since you need mass to punch a hole if frozen ground.

I could be wrong.
