Guns are one important item on the list of machines and devices that kill..

Guns are designed to kill other human beings efficiently. They are also designed to kill other large animals efficiently. That is what they are for. (Except, of course, for the guns designed to kill small animals).

Trucks are not for killing large numbers of people. Neither is fertilizer and fuel oil. You need to actually put forth a lot of effort and will to make those things become highly deadly.

Gun advocates need to deal with two things, desperately:

The nature of guns is inherently dangerous, because that’s what their for. They’re to be dangerous. They are not to be safe. Attempts to render them safe render them less useful.

Most people are not extremely disciplined. Most people aren’t going to adhere to the standards of gun ownership we’d like. Even cops do dumb stuff like shooting themselves during safety demonstrations, losing their weapons, etc. But we have no standards for the safe storage of guns that I know of in most places.

Guns are designed to be lethal and dangerous. Trucks are not. Making the comparison is silly.
