Apparently there was a stop work order on one of the affected buildings; Con Ed has shut off gas to the area; multiple casualties reported.

This is reminiscent of a building explosion just over a year ago up in Harlem. Killed a bunch of people. Turned out it was a gas explosion, though not sure who was at fault (the building or ConEd).

I’ve been by that site a bunch of times in recent weeks, and they’re setting up a memorial for the victims of that incident.
