Iraq’s holding on, and what burning’s happened has been largely contained in Anbar Province. Moreover, Al-Maliki has worked to end the crisis in Anbar >without massive bloodshed. That last alone marks a welcome change of pace from the brutality of Saddam Hussein.

Problem remains that 1) we used to support him and 2) that brutality was equaled if not bettered by that of our “allies” in Chile and Argentina. I have a hard time believing the squeals of neo-con’s about the very real brutalities of Hussein’s sons when our governments congratulated those who did far worse things when they threw their rape victims out of helicopters an hour out over the Atlantic or herded people into stadiums for mass executions.
