Just like everything else, it’s a compromise. They keep property values up, but they can also piss you off when they think your home improvement “cheapens” the neighborhood.
I guess it also depends why you buy a house. if the house is an investment and you want to flip it, makes some sense. If it’s my primary residence and I don’t plan to sell? I’m far less concerned about the property values.
