This is why they sell old pick up trucks with AM radios only.

They are needed.

Somebody pointed out that the sound of bands like Creedence Clearwater Revival had more than a bit to do with the effect that they sounded good blaring out of a transistor radio.

In fact, that is one of the things that I associate with memories of the summer of 1970: the intro to “Up Around the Bend” blaring out of our neighbor’s Ford Fairlane.
