That stretch of Rt. 2 had been built as an old-type highway, maybe a fence down the middle, with intersections. There is even a stoplight (now permanently flashing yellow) at one point.
They’ve partially improved it.
The worst part, though, is the stretch through Concord, which does have a 45 limit, and traffic lights every mile or so. I’ve heard Concord fights any attempt to upgrade it, they don’t want the traffic. They get the traffic anyway, because that’s the only way into Boston without going 30 miles out of the way.
The road is so bad the commuter rail line is packed.
