As usual he gets the facts wrong and he doesn’t know how to express empathy, but this is not an appalling tweet. I hate and despise him with the fire of a million suns but the tweet is not inappropriate. Let’s criticize for all his serious flaws as president and as a human being — but this doesn’t rank anywhere on the list.

Not only does he get his facts wrong, but he comes off like a muckraker trying to stake claim on a scoop, not a leader. No condolences, no expression of grief or sympathy, no show of honor for Kobe’s existence at all, just a shallow ‘This is Terrible!’ like he’s going through the motions, like Willy Wonka. There’s just nothing there. It’s as if someone told him he had to make a statement and he thought that up without any sort of understanding about why it was such a terrible loss.

Not to mention in getting the facts wrong, he diminishes the loss of everyone else that was on that helicopter just in the rush to put SOMETHING out.
