Been thinking about a fantasy-scifi-futurism story set in about 3900 years, when modernity has collapsed and in North America the dominant religion has melded Buddhism (from a giant influx of Asian immigrants over a millennium) with high-church Christianity.

Sort of like A Canticle for Leibowitz, but more distant and not so centered on an nuclear apocalypse.

The new temples/cathedrals play a central role in holding together civilization, but unlike Miller’s novel the religion is not so much ascetic but more into bling:
