I’m looking for the point where human lives are worth more than a hypothetical strategic principle to someone who values those principles.

I’m sure DF would pay the ransom if it was his kid
he might agree to pay if it was your or my kid
he’d lean “no” if it was someone from his state, but he didn’t knows kid
he’s saying “no” because he’s too far removed from whose kid(s) it is
