One of the hardest things to convey in writing is tone. The same sentence can mean multiple different things depending on HOW it is spoken. I try to be as clear as possible with my writing but I am sure there are times I come across in a way I don’t mean to.

i remind myself of this from the play Six Characters in Search of an Author:

But don’t you see that the whole trouble lies here. In words, words. Each one of us has within him a whole world of things, each man of us his own special world. And how can we ever come to an understanding if I put in the words I utter the sense and value of things as I see them; while you who listen to me must inevitably translate them according to the conception of things each one of you has within himself. We think we understand each other, but we never really do.

and that notion was face-to-face talk.

add the written word and that most of us dont even know that much about each other….

so yeah - we’re smart enough. let’s be extra tolerant out there, in here.
