What I meant to say: This shit happens all the time with both ideologies, don’t make out the tea partiers out to be any worse than the left when Bush was in power, media coverage not withstanding.

There were no death threats during the Bush years…otherwise, we would have seen them as we are the current ones. There were calls for impeachment (I had that bumpersticker myself), and there were complaints that our rights were being whittled away by the Patriot Act (they were, and still are), and there were complaints that the administration knowingly lied about Saddam’s status as a threat to America and Iraq’s neighbors (true, dat). But the pacifists weren’t breaking congressional office windows, putting caskets on their lawns as threats (Cindy Sheehan’s memorial to her son notwithstanding), or faxing nooses to them.

Sorry, but “they did it too!” isn’t a rationale for the behavior we’re seeing today.
