I’m not sure how much of a problem it is. The jurors won’t necessarily have seen the perp walk coverage, and we already have rules like not handcuffing people in the courtroom and so on, letting them wear street clothes, to avoid the appearance of guilt.

Very true, although the possibility of media influence on the trial still exists. It’s just a question of where you draw the line.

People keep bringing up Roman Polanski and I think it’s a good point. If we know that we could have serious problems getting a suspect back from France is it really in the best interest of justice to grant them bail even if it’s something we would normally do?

I would grant bail with an amount that would actually hurt the accused in the case of flight (which is what bail is meant to do after all).

If we can pay for a couple dozen school teachers in the Bronx for a decade with the proceeds, he can fuck off as far as I’m concerned.
