Thing is GJ, very few on the right and none in the mainstream condone this sort of dishonestly and almost all understand why its bad. There’s few racists who might consider this stunt a version of “lying for Jesus”, but even most of the racists won’t like it because if it had worked it would have put police officers in real danger.

James O’Keefe isn’t about ideology, and he’d just as happily concoct a dishonest ‘story’ for MSNBC as he would for Fox News. The difference is that NBC News tends to actually look for confirmation and so would likely figure out O’Keefe was full of crap, as usual.

O’Keefe was counting on having footage to hand to FNC which Fox would rush onto the air without first checking other sources for confirmation. Given the way Fox News often operates, it likely would have worked, too.*

*: I say ‘likely’ instead of ‘certainly’ because in my mind there’s a 10-20% chance that Fox would have decided this sort of story’ was risky to run without checking. Had they checked, even Fox would have uncovered O’Keefe’s dishonesty.
