The U.S. highway system was always a little screwy with spurs and trunk routes. And can you explain Highway 6? How does that fit in with the whole numbered scheme?
US 6 is weird in that it goes through Denver (albeit unsigned) and Cleveland but manages to avoid Chicago, New York and Boston. Until California consolidated US routes in 1964, it went south all the way to Long Beach.
