The analogy I keep going back to is the endgame of the Peloponnesian War. Athens had to win every single battle. Sparta only had to win one.
Unless the GOP manages to suddenly start nominating sane candidates again, we have to face up to the likelihood that they will win an election and effectively end democracy at some point. Hoping to draw an inside flush every four years isn’t a strategy.
We can survive one rabid nutcase president. Trump 1 proved that. It’s kind of important that we don’t get Trump 2. Beyond that, it’s a thousand year war, and that’s optimistic.
