I’m starting to think it might be a very long trek. There’s always been a regressive instinct with conservatives but it seems that they’re retreating from American public opinion at an increasing rate. On issues like evolution, science, gay marriage, global warming, race issues, immigration, etc they are simply going to find themselves on the wrong side of history. Even with the fiscal conservatives it seems that they are going to end up wrong on economic stimulus and TARP. I wonder how long this is going to go on. I seriously doubt any of the conservative players today are going to survive politically to see the future of conservatism. Whatever the future is, this ain’t it.

Well said. They will do well in some local, maybe even State elections, but they are rapidly losing the national electorate.
