Mexicans do have a version of Spanish.
I don’t speak Spanish, but the specific Spanish that I don’t speak is Mexican/Californian Spanish.
When I was living in England, I kept getting approached on the street by Spanish tourists, who wanted help, and thought I looked like a possible Spanish speaker.
I can sort of give directions in Spanish—REAL Spanish—MEXICAN Spanish…but I couldn’t understand a damn thing they were saying half the time, and vice versa.
I loved Pan’s Labyrinth, but damn, those accents were distracting.
