I don’t know if the following is an apt metaphor, but I’m gonna give it a college try.

The politics of Republicans now and Confederates then seem similar. The Confederacy doesn’t exist primarily because none of the leaders could agree on the politics and ideology. Bear in mind that the mountain counties along Appalachia hated Confederates. The Confederates themselves, at the end of the war, rethought their view on the viability of blacks, as they started supplying their army with black soldiers who 4 years earlier were slaves and only slaves.

Complete ideological disarray.

And that’s where we’re at with the politics of Republicans today. It indicates to me that what we know of as the Republican Party is probably on it’s way out. We’ll see how far right they go in November. I mean, here in Colorado, we had counties out on the eastern plains voting yes or no on secession from the state of Colorado last year!

Speaking of weird politics and policy in Colorado: Colorado town rejects plan to let residents shoot drones by a wide margin.
