Personally, I’d restate this: all politics are local. Therefore, state issues in terms of things that matter to the local voting population. Big picture is fine….but they have to be stated in terms of local things (the things your voters care about).
That’s fair. I don’t have any data to back it up, but logically, I’m guessing the failure to run candidates in some races probably has an effect on turnout. Sort of a negative coattails effect “they don’t really care about us because they won’t even run someone in this district, so why should I bother voting for president/governor/senator? They’re just going to ignore us!” Now maybe that district level candidate loses 4:1, but that’s better than putting nothing on the board.
