The government would do the citizens of the US a huge favor by publically admitting that they cannot immediately feed, clothe, and house every person in a major natural disaster. Not even using fairy dust and unicron wishes.

You should have 3 days worth of food, clothing, and water. Fuel if you can, too. It may take that long for any assistance to reach you.
