re: #264 HappyWarrior

There was actually a good article in the WaPo about how Rubio is mostly a hit with older voters. Lots of quotes by older voters saying young people “should” like this guy. I am not impressed. He likes to play both sides of an argument, doesn’t vote a lot, and is frankly just as extreme as Cruz, Carson, and Trump in many ways. There’s nothing moderate abut a man who opposes abortion in all cases and is quite hostile to LGBT rights too. If he were nominated, I think it would become clear immediately that he’s like so many other young GOPers, an old man in a young man’s body.

If Rubio wins the nomination, the entire campaign will turn into “See this young guy run against that old crone Hillary!,” with various attempts to try to sell him as being “in” with younger voters and appealing to minority voters by virtue of being a Cubano. And all of his positions will “evolve,” but only within the confines of the base’s demands. So he won’t suddenly develop a love of gay folks, but he will suddenly express “openness” to some “compromise” measure like civil unions or a law that “protects religious freedom” while saying he won’t outright call for a federal ban on gay marriage.
