Iraq’s holding on, and what burning’s happened has been largely contained in Anbar Province. Moreover, Al-Maliki has worked to end the crisis in Anbar >without massive bloodshed. That last alone marks a welcome change of pace from the brutality of Saddam Hussein.

Don’t go all Cheney with the Iraq justifications. It’s like Vietnam: a giant foreign policy mistake that no amount of re-hashing will change. Best to admit it and move on. Don’t feel bad about it. Better presidents than W also made foreign policy mistakes; indeed, they all have.
