It’s not even that cynical with the Brady Campaign, it’s that they really do believe that all guns are bad and the desire to own a gun is the desire to use the gun for violence.

They’re more similar to the SoCons; they have a belief system and they skew everything to fit inside it.

I can understand that. They want total victory for their side, not a reasonable compromise. That sort of true believer actually worries me more than a political hack ever will. Hacks may be assholes, but their desire for money or power usually means you can negotiate with them or sometimes simply buy them off. True believers will never stop coming at you, because they are certain they are right. That last statement’s wording was original, but it’s insight was not.
