Part of me wants to suggest just sinking this ship. The draw-back is that that would kill the innocent crew.

Yeah, I didn’t mean to suggest sinking the ships the pirates captured, although in many cases, that may be a better alternative. Rather, allow our forces the leeway to shoot at them and, if feasible, conduct boarding operations. Do it like we did with the Barbary pirates back in the early days of the Navy.
