Yeah—Lee’s letter of resignation was decent and old-school.

The US Civil War had a lot of blather about honor. Lee had both honor *and* integrity and the two are not the same thing.

Main pity about Lee is that he believed that loyalty to his state was more important than loyalty to the country, despite various oaths that he made.
