The 9th Doctor was so obviously in love with Rose it was hilarious. And cringe-worthy considering how Rose is not that bright, among other flaws.

Though, yes, a good chunk of that reaction is a reaction the Rose fans on Tumblr. They tend to bash every other companion since.

I admit it’s been awhile since I’ve seen Series 1, but I found Nine’s infatuation with Rose to be something that developed over the course of the series, and was generally restrained. Of course, that may be in comparison to Ten and how he seemed to be practically glued to her. Consider that Nine was ready to kick her off during “Father’s Day” for breaking the rules, something that Ten would have treated like cutting off a limb.
