Say what you will about Charles, he has been steadfast is his love for Camilla for decades now. It’s not like he cheated on Diana with a series of starlets and lesser aristocracy. It was a forced marriage like they have been for royalty since time immemorial, and it’s only modern times where we expect, somehow, that a marriage for royalty is supposed to be about love and fidelity.

Part of being a good mascot is fitting into your era — a loveless marriage for breeding purposes, with a far-from-secret side-piece you’ve been with since before the wedding and consistently thereafter, is very 19th century.
