I liked iOS 7 Safari’s support for the ‘minimal-ui’ viewport setting, because it let me use more of the limited mobile real estate.

But iOS 8 no longer supports minimal-ui, and I sorta understand, but sorta don’t. So I’ve removed it, under protest.

This means that when you scroll down in iOS 8 Safari, you’ll now see those navigation controls pop up at the bottom of the screen automatically.

When I say I sorta understand why they made this unchangeable, I know many users want every website to behave the same way on their mobile devices, and I’m sorta cool with that.

But it means giving up something, too - the extra screen space at the top and bottom when you scroll down. I liked having that extra space, but I am just a microscopic cog in Apple’s catastrophic plan.
