It’s always been a baffling complaint, since the problem is trends. A badly-positioned data collection point might collect higher-than-average data, but if it goes up over time, that’s still a meaningful trend.

If I have my thermometer in the warmest room in the house, it’s going to show warmer-than-average temperature. But it still is going to show hotter when the whole house is hotter, and colder when the whole house is colder.
