Right wing HC ideas kill me. The thing now is catastrophic + HSA for everyone. But then you run the numbers and see the govt saves money by incentivizing preventive care and diagnostics and women’s health, so you make those cheeper or free; and people with chronic issues and the poor will need more help for non-catastrphic care cost. ANd you wonder if the system really needs to pay 20% of costs that go to admin and earnings for private companies for not adding much in free market benefits. Before you know you just talked your way into a single payer system.

HSAs are supposed to be their appeal to younger, healthier Americans by suggesting that you get to keep the money in the HSA at the end of the year that doesn’t go towards paying for medical care. Problem is that the money A) can’t be used for anything else and B) gets blown through quickly if you get sick. Any system that is designed to market health care to healthy people is ultimately going to fail, because the purpose of health care is to take care of sick people.
