Yep. Had the great pleasure of looking at some first hand accounts from the German side when I took German history a couple years back in college. It really felt like Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front. In the early months of the war, you see so much optimism and unwavering patriotism but by the time the war has started to show some hints of what it became you see growing cynicism and doubt. Many of the men whose letters I read never lived to see the war’s end.
