O.T.
Wasn’t sure where to ask this but I knew it had to be in an evolution topic. In the front page post for Sat. overnight thread is a quote by R. C. Lewontin. Did anyone else notice the oops in his argument (a single point NOT the argument as a whole)? In the middle of his list of facts he states
“It is a fact that all living forms come from previous living forms.”
My question would be ‘what previous living form did the original single cell organisms on this planet come from?’ Since, if this statement is indeed fact, then it must follow that life in some form preceded the big bang, that life existed before time or the universe.
If we are going to demand accuracy in the teaching of science, which is a good thing, then perhaps we should not so pompously (from my perspective) just list facts that must be accepted without first checking for statements that would leave us open to the counter-argument “well, if this statement is demonstrably wrong, how can we be honest without questioning all the others?” or some other such twaddle.

The DI loonies have too many people flummoxed as it is, let’s not give them even the hint of any other straw to grasp at.

It is a fact that NOWADAYS, all living forms come from other living forms. Science is not in a position to assert which was the first living form, the chicken or the egg.
