I have read the NYT for a long time—years and years and years—and it’s sad to see its decline. When I lived in Italy, I read the International Herald Tribune (which is published by the Times) and saw so many typos, left out words, stories that jumped to nowhere—downright mistakes—that I became much more attentive to the Times itself. Maureen Dowd, who “went off” Clinton, used to make me smile a bit—but she has been too long at the job. She wouldn’t be working there if the Times was what it used to be—now its columnists are just no longer critical thinkers—just critical carpers.
