For what it’s worth, a few people on the original post pointed out that Reagan’s gutting of the Fairness Doctrine set us on this path. A quick spot check of the people who had open pages did reveal the usual conservatives being clueless about what they were whining about.

No, that only started the bleed. Then Ted Turner invented the 24 hr news channel with CNN and the bleed turned into a deluge. Once news went from informing to entertaining, that was pretty much it as far as an objective press. Who would want to watch the “nightly news” when they could turn over to CNN or the other networks like it at any time of the day?
