Yes indeed, and once identified as suspicious, I doubt they would want to approach closely enough to grab a VIN. I imagine they will get that from the wreckage, if it wasn’t similarly removed.

Unless the bombers were very thorough, the VIN on many vehicles (especially medium- and heavy-duty vehicles) is also stamped on the engine block and frame/unibody.
