Marriage, or some sort of contractual concubinage thing? My presumption is that once women are property the formal “wife” will depend on her social status; e.g. who her father is. Otherwise, a woman taken for sexual activities who doesn’t have sufficient status will be given some sort of secondary status below “wife”. Assuming there is any sort of formal acknowledgement of the arrangement since lip service to Christian monogamy is probably still in the game.

There is a strong undercurrent of a “return to Old Testament values” in the Evangelical Christian scene. In any right wing Dominionist/Originalist Christian sect there are those who proudly proclaim themselves “Old Testament Christians”… I.e. rejecting any and all Jesus teachings about peace and substituting Bronze Age dictates instead. This includes the ‘rewards” polygamy and concubines to those white Christian males who can assert power and wealth. This is high on the agenda of many Christian males, albeit unspoken in public.
