Very true, and also baffling to anyone that has spent time in Japan as I have. The people are embarrassingly polite, high dollar electronics items are safely displayed outside stores, mostly safe streets and the rest, just a 180 degrees out from how they waged WW II.
I’d like to believe we shaped the new Japan with our occupation and by helping write their constitution. Maybe it’s just the nature of a war waged for a “divine” emperor that made them brutes, but there is no real excuse.

They’re polite to each other, but to non-japanese they are not so nice - at least that was my take on it.
