Interestingly, in the small market where I grew up, there was an anchor on the top station who’d been anchoring for like 20 years. She had some messy personal problems, left the station, and after a few years, they brought her back because none of the other female anchors they tried worked out. She stayed quite a few more years, and that was the top-rated newscast in the area.

TV news is a weird business.
