My dad had an employee who was a for-real MacGuyver type, and built cable de-scrambler boxes using parts from Radio Shack. So, we illegally watched cable for a couple of years until the cable company changed something and they didn’t work anymore. Woo, almost like the Gottis, amirite?

Historical note: In the early 80s there was something called “The Playboy Channel” on which you could sometimes see a show called “Electric Blue”. Imagine vaguely European-scented softcore porn presented in the manner of “Entertainment Tonight”, and that will give you a fair approximation.

We used to have this one channel called Selectv that was HBOs competitor. It came on after a broadcast channel in town went off the air at night. The scramble box had a key on it to turn it on. That’s when I saw The Shining. Good movie.
