As I’ve mentioned, I was at Berkeley in the Sixties. I participated in sit-ins and street actions. We did not sing Kumbaya. The only people who sang the song were Hollywood’s idea of hippies in movies and TV.

When I work with kid groups on things like Katrina relief or Habitat projects, I have them do Kumbaya at the farewell dinner. Just the evil lib in me.

(Song has an interesting history. It came out of the KY mountain fundie churches, went to Africa with the missionaries, and came back with the godless commies.)
