I didn’t fight all my life to get into suburbia and own a beautiful home. Neither did my parents: they had three suburban homes (sequentially, not simultaneously) by the time Dad was 32, and we were lower middle class.

Now, my wife and I were pushing forty before we bought our first (and presumably, last) downmarket home in the desert because we’re even poorer than our parents were, and they weren’t rich.

Suburbia can go fuck itself with its “keeping up with the Joneses” mentality and its homeowners associations poking its nose everywhere and dictating what you can do with your own damned property.

Trump and his spawn wouldn’t be caught dead living in suburbia. And I, who was raised in suburbia, wouldn’t be caught dead living in a secure, gated community.
