White Sands National Monument closed because of drone crash

A QF-4 drone aircraft from Holloman Air Force Base crashed this morning at White Sands National Monument.

Holloman officials said the crash occurred 9:08 a.m., four to five miles off of Runway 22.

The monument was closed in advance of the test mission and will remain closed until further notice, officials said.

The unmanned aircraft was conducting a routine training mission, according to base officials, who said there is no threat to the public.
