The monopoly status enjoyed by many social media platforms does come close to making them the de facto “public square” but that is an issue that needs to be addressed separately.

According to existing laws, they are private entities which can regulate their own operations as they see fit.

Walmart and McDonald’s can still kick you out and ban you for being an asshole even thought they seem like public spaces.
