The reason why this ridiculous canard that “black soldiers fought in the Confederate Army” always comes up when this subject is raised: because it’s supposed to undercut the very obvious truth that the Civil War was about slavery, from start to finish.

There were NO black soldiers fighting on the side of the Confederacy. This claim is FALSE.

Up here in Canada, we were taught that in addition to ending slavery, the Civil War was primarily about stopping the Confederacy from forming their own nation and keeping all the lucrative profits from the cotton trade.
And apparently the main reason the cotton trade was so profitable was…slavery.
So yes, it was ALL about slavery…sort of.
